ASK – About
ASK Founder, Alan Walker, B.Tech. (Hons) Mech. Eng., RSA Cert. in Counselling.Rehabilitated from a 30 year serious drinking problem, I am sincerely committed to helping others make positive lifestyle changes towards recovery.
Over fifteen years until June 2004, I served as Director, Secretary and General Manager of Kirklees Alcohol Advisory Service (KAAS), a Rational Recovery Group which provides non religious effective help to all those suffering directly or indirectly through alcohol abuse.
During that time I gained a wealth of knowledge about alcohol abuse, based partly on my own history and understanding, but greatly enhanced by the shared experiences of the 2,000 or so problem drinkers who passed through the group each year.
I founded Alcohol Support Kirklees (ASK) to fill a gap in local alcohol service provision. There are many people experiencing alcohol problems who are not ready or willing to attend any local groups, yet would benefit from a confidential one to one discussion with someone qualified to help them.
I use an enthusiastic step by step approach, combining empathy with a pragmatic and practical style, tempered with an appropriate sense of humour. Techniques used embrace Cognital Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT).
The aim is to motivate people to start to handle their problems and get back to normality, possibly in the company of others who have done the same.
